Abstract

We developed the WALL-E measure of intonation sensitivity. College students listened to brief robotic vocalizations and deciphered their underlying emotions, actions, and intentions (e.g., Eva? Eva!). Theoretically informative relationships were revealed among intonation sensitivity, stress/rhythm sensitivity, decoding, comprehension, grades, and music/voice training. Skills underlying proficient reading are discussed.
