Social Media Use Is Positively Associated with Depression Symptoms Among Lonelier Adolescents

Abstract

We examined social media use, loneliness, and depression in a sample of adolescents, all of which increased during COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders. Further, one year later, among the loneliest adolescents there was a positive relation between social media use and symptoms of depression.
