Abstract

Acculturative stress (AS) is predictive of negative body image among ethnic minority populations. Familism and gender role beliefs (GRB) were tested as moderators. GRB was a moderator. The effects of AS on body image outcomes were strongest when participants had more traditional GRB, compared to more moderate or feminist/egalitarian GRB.
