Abstract
We tested longitudinal, cross-lagged relationships between ventral striatum (VS) reward response and depression and anhedonia symptoms in 138 Brazilian adolescents. Blunted VS activity predicted increased follow-up depression, while greater baseline depression predicted increased follow-up VS activity. Findings suggest a bidirectional yet opposing temporal relationship between adolescent depression and VS response.
