Abstract
To gain new global insight into the relationship between substance use and mood disorders, our study examined the prevalence of mood and substance use disorders across 209 countries. We found that depressive disorders predicted less alcohol use and substance disorders, while bipolar disorders predicted more alcohol use and substance disorders.
