Women’s and Men’s Perceptions of Control over Physical Appearance

Abstract
This exploratory study of 111 U.S. women and men examined elements of appearance participants believed they could and could not control. Hair and weight were the most frequently listed controllable aspects. Men were more likely than women to list muscularity and superficial facial or skin appearance as controllable aspects.
Gender
