Mental State Verb Learning and Theory of Mind in Mandarin-Speaking Children

Abstract

The study examines whether Mandarin-speaking children can learn new mental state verbs from syntactic information and whether mastery of mental state verbs predicts theory of mind. Results show that children used syntactic information to infer novel verb meaning, while theory of mind did not correlate with mastery of the verbs.
