Why Existential Threats Increase Conspiracy Beliefs: Evidence for the Mediating Roles of Agency Detection and Pattern Perception

This research conducts a series of studies to examine the underlying cognitive processes between existential threat and conspiracy beliefs in a Chinese context. Through 5 studies (total sample =1173), we conclude that the effects of existential threat on conspiracy beliefs are mediated by agency detection and pattern perception.
