Emotional Maltreatment in Childhood Increases Adult Emotion Recognition Accuracy

Abstract

Changes in emotion recognition have been linked to childhood maltreatment. However, the relationship between specific types of maltreatment and adult emotion recognition remains unclear. Among 290 US adults, regression analysis showed physical, emotional neglect and physical neglect, emotional abuse best predicted recognition of positive and negative emotions, respectively.
