The Psychological Consequences of Living in a Market Society
Fourteen studies investigated the consequences of the marketization of society. Materialistic values are associated with an altered structure of one’s social network (Moldes). Pro-self motivation triggers interpersonal objectification and amplifies competitive behaviors (Andrighetto). Including money in sharing economy interactions hurts social capital (Kuzminska). Humility hinders the desire for money (Kesebir).
