From Outside in: Four Ways Culture Shapes Happiness and Motivation
Four studies show that culture fundamentally shapes what motivates people. Being observed on Zoom motivates charity in India and China but not the US. Social harmony interventions reduce poverty in Niger better than individual initiative. Differing happiness motivations can explain why East Asia is less happy than it “should be.”
