Lower Memory Ability in Lower SES Is Not Explained By Smaller Hippocampi

Socioeconomic status (SES) is related to memory ability and hippocampal volume (HV). Given the role of the hippocampus in memory, this suggests that HV mediates the SES-memory relation.  Despite significant SES-memory, SES-HV, and HV-memory relations, mediation was not found.  Different aspects of HV apparently underlie relations with SES and memory.
