Dissociating Effects of Automatic from Controlled Processing on the Evaluation of Implicit Associations Tests

Implicit Association Tests (IATs) purport to measure implicit attitudes often controversial in nature. However, when presented with controversial topics, individuals become more careful when responding, rendering traditional IAT scoring ineffective. Using drift diffusion models, we find response caution more strongly confounds IAT performance in socially sensitive IATs.
