Abstract

Psychological need sacrificing is a maladaptive approach to pursuing career goals that entails a self-imposed abandonment of need satisfying activities. Self-criticism, low dispositional mindfulness, and controlled motivation each predict burnout as mediated by need sacrificing. Exploratory factor analyses found three factors (autonomy, competence, relatedness sacrifice) of the need sacrificing scale.
