Abstract
We examined retrospective ratings of parental care and personality traits among 315 adults. There were main effects of parental care on neuroticism, agreeableness, and conscientiousness, arguably the most important in terms of adaptiveness in adulthood. Parental warmth predicted lower levels of detachment but only in the least negative family environment.
