Abstract
This paper puts forth a theory of developmental psychopathology of adolescents in which parental monitoring, parental warmth, and a positive family environment strengthen an adolescent's buffer while excessive screen time weakens an adolescent's buffer against developing psychopathology. The data comprised 11,225 youths from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study.
