Emotional Exhaustion Measured By the Maslach Burnout Inventory—but Not By the Shiom-Melamed Burnout Measure—Predicts Job Performance

A two-wave study was conducted to examine the links between burnout as measured by two major assessments and job-related outcomes (job satisfaction, job performance, turnover intentions, and job commitment). Results indicated correlations between both the SMBM and MBI with job performance, but only MBI emotional exhaustion predicted job performance.
