Do Words Bias Adults' Encoding and Recognition of Novel Objects?

Abstract
Familiar words activate representations of familiar object categories, but do words shape initial encoding of novel objects to privilege category-relevant features? We found that unfamiliar words bias adults to encode novel objects at a categorical vs. individual level. A question for future research is how this bias develops during development.
