Abstract

National U.S. data show geographical variations in racial bias, which could be due to characteristics of people. Another possibility, examined across 3 studies, is that places themselves prompt stereotypical concepts. Using Google Streetview, we examined if the physical characteristics of neighborhoods prompt stereotypical inferences about poverty, race, and danger.
