Abstract

Negative overgeneralization occurs when isolated experiences become global patterns of thinking and is common in anxiety. Posttraumatic stress (PTSS) may be uniquely associated with this symptom dimension, given the etiological role for memory and generalization. PTSS in early adolescents predicted self-reported, but not behavioral, negative overgeneralization above and beyond anxiety.
