Testing Effects Are Attributed to Activation of Information, Not Episodic Reinstatement or Attention Reset

Abstract

We tested three competing hypotheses that suggest retrieval practice testing effects are due to activation of information, activation of episodic context, or resetting attention and focus. Participants were randomly assigned to one of four conditions, and our results suggest that testing effects can be attributed to activation of information.
