Damsels in Distress: When Helping Women Isn't Helpful

Men are encouraged to be allies to women in the workplace by helping them. However, across 4 studies, we find that help from men may negatively impact the perceptions of their female colleagues by making them appear helpless, incompetent and unassertive, which hurts their ability to progress in the workplace.
