Relationships Among Parental Autonomy Support and Burnout, Issues with Alcohol, and Illness Anxiety in College Students

As emerging adults increase independence, it is critical that their parents support their autonomy and avoid overly intrusive or controlling parenting. Investigating the impact of autonomy support, we collected empirical data from 71 college students, finding that autonomy support significantly predicted reduced burnout, fewer alcohol issues, and fewer internalizing problems.
