Abstract
Participants read a news article describing a clinical trial of a new weight loss drug, then rated their confidence in the drug's effectiveness. Ratings were lower for articles that highlighted previous research, even when the previous research was predominantly positive and confidence should have increased, suggesting base-rate neglect.
