Abstract
As part of a longitudinal study of sibling and friend relationships, we analyzed the ways adolescents use verbal irony to mitigate or intensify utterances, considering the influence of partner and gender. Both gender and interaction partner played roles in the use of sarcasm and jocularity for mitigation and intensification.
