Abstract

We report two studies, one exploratory and one confirmatory, in which we tested the hypothesis that overparenting is negatively correlated with psychosocial development. This hypothesis was confirmed. This result is consistent with theories emphasizing a need for unsupervised peer interactions, but also with overparenting caused by lower levels of development.
