"Who Is a Mathematician?": How Language Cues Impact Who Children Describe

Abstract
This research examined the effect of language manipulation on elementary-age children's responses to open-ended questions related to mathematics. When asked to describe a mathematician they know, compared to someone who likes math or does math, children, specifically girls, were more likely to describe an adult rather than a child.
