Partisan Power Effects on Positive Sentiment: Does Being in Power Lead Members of the US House of Representatives to be More Positive?

Abstract
By analyzing Congressional speeches over a 22-year period (2001-2022), we will investigate the effect of power on the use of positive emotion by elite politicians. We hypothesize that the use of positive emotion words changes over time depending on which party is in power, with power leading to more positivity.
Politics
