One Team, One Mission: Effect of Close Social Groups on Students' STEM Degree Persistence at a Military College

With small colleges producing an increased percentage of STEM graduates, whose voice resonates most with majors? This study surveyed students at a military institution to determine which close social subgroups (e.g., family members) influenced students' motivation to persist in STEM. Results indicate professors and friend groups contribute more than others.
