The Relationship between Perseverative Cognition, Depression, Executive Control, and Cytokine Reactivity to Social Stress

Exposure to social stress increases inflammatory activity which contributes to depression. Getting stuck in a negative pattern of thinking may also contribute to depression by maintaining this inflammatory response. We plan to investigate this in a laboratory setting by inducing social stress and examining the effects on cognition and inflammation.
