When <em>Foreign</Em> Language Is Also <em>Distant</Em>: Language Influences Our Estimates about the Past and the Future

Abstract
The past seems more distant and the future seems less likely when thinking in a foreign language. In a series of studies testing different bilingual populations, we demonstrate that using a foreign language, compared to a native language, influences estimates about past and future by inducing a sense of distance.
