Abstract
Using a task that circumvents existing methodological and interpretive controversies, three studies confirm that people tend to seek non-diagnostic rather than diagnostic information when evaluating two alternative hypotheses. However, the observed preference patterns indicate some degree of individual-level consistency in the preference for either diagnostic or non-diagnostic information.
