When Second Efforts Fall Short: Evidence of a "Sophomore Slump" Bias in Ratings of 2,078 Albums from 387 Music Artists

Abstract
The "sophomore slump" cognitive bias was tested by examining whether music artists' second albums are rated to be worse than their first. Archival data analysis of 2,078 album reviews from 387 artists showed a significant sophomore slump over and above a linear decline in album quality over time.
