Abstract

Rapid qualitative analysis of interviews of patients with bipolar disorders who completed a three-month study using smartphone apps tracking symptoms and functioning, demonstrated that app engagement promoters include perceived increased insight/self-reflection, low-effort, passive app features, and in-app reminders. Inhibitors include busy schedules, transient anxiety about being "tracked" and low/depressed mood.
