Hormonal Cycle Effects on Reliability of Thermal Pain Sensitivity Measures

Abstract
Women who participated in multiple pain tasks and completed menstrual cycle questionnaires (n = 31) were evaluated to see if hormonal fluctuations affected pain measure reliability. Participants using contraceptives had a significantly smaller difference between sessions for the start of pain detection (threshold) and consistency in ratings (r2 trim).
