Abandoning Academia: Social Support and Workload Predict Engagement and Turnover Intentions in University Faculty

Abstract
With high numbers of faculty leaving higher education, this study (N=251 university/college professors/instructors) examined connections between job demands and resources (workload and social support) to predict motivational outcomes (turnover intention, work engagement). Workload and support from administration and colleagues were the strongest predictors. Limitations and potential explanations will be discussed.
