Abstract
Substantial research links cost-benefit decision-making to substance misuse. We specified how individuals weigh multiple costs when deciding to allocate effort to avoid loss. Affective motivations for substance use differentiated the evaluation of cost information regarding where and when to incur costs, or appropriately allocate effort.
