Differential Autonomic Responses While Listening to Natural Sounds and Mechanical Sounds

Abstract

Healthy thirty-three adults (24.60+10.17yrs.) listened to ten 1-minute-long audio files with mechanical or nature sounds. Skin conductance level (SCL) was higher during resting-period than ocean-waves, waterfall, mountain-wind, rain, birds-chirping, and whales. Further, SCL was also higher during helicopter-sound and rowing-boat-sound than during ocean-waves, waterfall, mountain-wind, rain, birds-chirping, and whales (P<.05).
