Examining the Relationship between Trait and State Emotion Regulation

Ecological momentary assessments may elucidate relationships between trait (i.e., habitual) versus state (i.e., real-time) emotion regulation (ER). Preliminary analyses reveal higher use of ER daily predicted higher use of cognitive reappraisal and lower use of expressive suppression. Further examination could explore within- and between-persons differences in trait versus state ER.
