Abstract

Emotion regulation (ER) involves top-down and bottom-up processes. We investigated the roles of cardiac vagal control and startle habituation, as psychophysiological indices of effort control and emotion reactivity, respectively, in suppression and cognitive reappraisal. We found that cardiac vagal control and startle habituation jointly predict both ER strategies.
