Emotion Recognition in Masked and Unmasked Conditions: Differences between Emotions, Participant Sex, and Target Sex

Abstract
135 participants (106 women, 29 men) viewed 5 pictures each of male and female targets exhibiting six emotions in masked and unmasked conditions. Masking had the expected overall negative effect on emotion recognition, but men were more negatively impacted by masks than women. The effect also differed for different emotions.
