The Relationship between Endorsement of Collectivism or Individualism and Peer Victimization in a Collectivistic Middle School

Among Chinese middle schoolers, our longitudinal study found that collectivism predicted less relational victimization mediated by sociability. Individualism predicted more aggression and relational victimization. It is possible that in collectivist societies, bullying may be done to enforce group norms, rewarding sociability and punishing aggression.
