Abstract
This study will test competing hypotheses about the relationship between loneliness and prosocial behavior. Participants choose between exerting effort to obtain a reward or avoid a loss and resting for both "self" and "other" trials. We expect higher loneliness to be associated with decreased prosocial behavior, particularly when avoiding loss.
