Prevalence of Weather Phobia Symptoms Has Increased with Increases in Severe Weather

Research suggests increasing severe weather endangers population mental health. We calculated the prevalence of severe weather phobia in 7 diverse community samples totaling 3,874 U.S. adults. We found that the prevalence of phobia symptoms in 6 of 7 samples increased from 2008 to 2022 corresponding with more frequent severe weather.
