To What Extent Does "Fat-Talk" Among Friends Undermine Adolescent Body Image and Overall Well-Being?

Abstract
"Fat talk" involves engaging in conversation regarding weight and body image, typically negatively. Phase I examined 94 girls in a single-sex secondary school engaging in fat talk via a theoretical "friend" conversation. No significant correlations were found with well-being, body image or self-esteem. Phase II will employ naturalistic text-messaging.
