Abstract

Sixty-three adults were assigned feedback to induce loneliness (FA) or feelings of belonging (FB). While presented with social/non-social affective pictures, their neural and cardiac response was measured. Vagal flexibility was positively correlated with activation of regions associated with theory of mind and emotion processing networks only in the FB group.
