Abstract
Programming-naive students were tested on language comprehension, fluid reasoning, arithmetic, and working memory abilities before taking an introductory programming course. Individual differences in programming knowledge, assessed at the end of the semester, was predicted by a principal component weighing more on deductive logical reasoning and arithmetic, but not language comprehension.
