Blameworthiness of Offenses, Victim Reproaches, and Offender Accounts

Abstract
We coded wrongdoers' verbatim accounts following an interpersonal transgression (accidental, negligent, or intentional) and systematically varied victim reproaches. Results showed that victim reproaches may affect wrongdoers' responses following negligence, but not accidental or intentional acts, capturing wrongdoers' sensitivity to face threat inherent in reproaches when offense blameworthiness is moderate.
