A Few Bad Apples Can Destroy the Reciprocal Nature of the Majority

We show that social norms help to establish conditional cooperation in certain conditions. Specifically, a few stubborn unconditional cooperators are necessary to establish conditional cooperation among the heterogeneous conditional cooperators, but a few stubborn unconditional defectors are sufficient to destroy such cooperation, even in the presence of the unconditional cooperators.
