Friendship Quality in Close Friendships: The Role of Gender Composition in Friendship Dyads

This study investigated positive and negative friendship quality differences between same- and other-gender friendships. Results indicated the highest level of closeness, intimate disclosure, and emotional support in same-gender female friends. Companionship and satisfaction did not differ between same-gender friendships (both male and female) and in male reports of other-gender friendships.
